faq's

To learn more about the stories of people who shape this campaign, watch our video for the Be Seen Be Heard Campaign.

Young people's exclusion from the nation's political processes results in political inertia. This can either be due to systemic complications in their participation as voters or a function of biases against them due to their age, disallowing them to take part as elected representatives (more on this can be found at why25.in). YIF’s Youth Voter Festivals are a way to bridge the gap between young people and their civic duty as democratic citizens.

Since we all have a part to play in the democracy of India, Young India Foundation is helping young people claim their role as voters. At a festival, our volunteers prompt and guide you through the process of registering as eligible voters - whether you have not been registered previously or hold a Voter’s ID card and have recently moved. This is done in coordination with the Election Commission of India, which ensures that your registration is legally valid.

Young people are dynamic and ever-moving across the country. A key mission of this campaign is to help those who have moved to different cities for college to become valid changemakers for their new constituency through the process of re-registration. Your active participation in a new city’s economy, for even 3-4 years can make a difference, and this is acknowledged when your voice is heard.

Yes! Keep in mind that having a Voter’s identity card does not ensure that you are added onto an electoral roll for an election at the municipal, state or national level. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) undertake a vetting process before any election process, and consequently keep or remove your name from the electoral roll.

To ensure that you are included in the list of voters, check your name here. All you need to enter is your EPIC number [your voter ID number, also known as the Electors Photo Identity Card number], and state of registration.

We are happy to help you navigate this process at a festival as well - and guide you through re-registration, if needed!

Volunteers are the heart of Young India Foundation. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to work with over 300 young people. There are volunteers of every age, educational background and political ideology, but all share a love of democracy and youth rights. They are organised into state-wise teams in major cities across the country, with a core team of full-time YIF members supporting them in-turn, every step of the way.

Those who excel are given opportunities to become "Team Leaders," travel to festivals and workshops, or earn money as paid representatives. We are happy to sponsor you and one friend to travel to a festival that requires volunteers, with a chance to meet and hang out with the artists!

Volunteer Now.

We would love to have you join the team to expand our ongoing initiatives and drive forward the national movement for youth rights and representation. You can read about YIF’s projects on our website, and apply using this form.
